How to connect Notion to your ChatGPT Dot: setup, board checks and 14 real Notion cases (OpenAI Dots)

Connect the Notion plugin in ChatGPT and your Dot reads, live, the pages that account can open, and creates or edits pages when the connection allows. 14 real cases, from a reporter's schedule checked for clashes within a minute to a Sprint Board worked every 15 minutes, and a delete that needed Chrome.

GPT Dot · Updated

The short version: what a Dot does well with Notion, how to set it up, where it gets stuck

A ChatGPT Dot (OpenAI Dots) can use your connected Notion account to find and read pages and, where the connection allows it, create or update them (Notion app and setup in ChatGPT). This section sums up what owners learned; the named cases follow below. To set up the Dot itself, start with getting started.

Is it worth connecting?

Yes, if your work already lives in Notion and you want something to check it for you. The strongest cases give the Dot one page or board to read every day. 오지은's Dot spotted an untitled press event on a Notion schedule, filled in a missing venue from the web and, within a minute of five new entries, flagged two clashes. Dejan Simic's Dot checks his Sprint Board every 15 minutes, tells him when a card is too vague and hands the ready ones to Codex. The weak spot is writing back. The connection may not offer the action you need (uehara's had no delete), edits show up in Notion under your name, and a busy agent can get throttled (supernovae). Let it read, flag and suggest, and decide in your rules which changes it has to ask about first.

How to set it up in seven steps

  1. In ChatGPT, open Settings → Plugins, select Notion and choose Connect (or Install plugin if Notion is listed as a plugin). Sign in with the Notion account that owns the pages, and review the workspace and content in the authorisation request before you approve it (Notion app and setup in ChatGPT).
  2. Know the boundary. The Dot sees only what that Notion account can open and what you authorised, and it reads live, so there is no sync to wait for. A ChatGPT workspace admin can make the Notion app available, but can't grant access to a page your Notion account isn't allowed to view. If access changes in Notion, reconnect.
  3. Notion is an app connection, separate from where you talk to the Dot: connecting Slack or another chat channel doesn't connect any app (Connect computers and apps; Meet dots). Ask the Dot which Notion workspace it can see, and whether it can create, edit or delete pages there or only read.
  4. Test it on one named page: ask for a summary and one small change, then open the page in Notion and check the change yourself.
  5. Pick one page or board as the Dot's daily read, and give each tool one job. Shingo Irie starts with three pages (where things stand, a projects database and a meeting-notes database); TAKU made one Notion page that says where each kind of record is kept.
  6. Write the approval rules once in Custom rules instead of in every message: which Notion changes need a yes (dates, owners, deletions), and that the Dot must tell you before it switches from the Notion connection to the browser.
  7. If the Dot works a board, schedule the check with times and a time zone, and write each card so it can be judged. Dejan Simic's cards have five fields: Goal, Done when, Where, Context and Avoid.

Where it gets stuck, and what worked

  1. A page doesn't turn up. It is usually outside the connected account or the authorisation. Open the page in Notion with the same account; if it opens there, reconnect and review what you authorised. Asking a ChatGPT admin won't help with a page your own Notion account can't view.
  2. The job needs an action the connection doesn't have. In uehara's test there was no delete, so the Dot moved to Chrome on his Mac. Ask the Dot how it plans to do a change before it starts, and say whether the browser route is allowed.
  3. The approval waits where nobody sees it. uehara's Chrome request appeared only in a separate conversation in the sidebar, with a "Needs approval" mark and no notification; after about 21 minutes the step was recorded as aborted. With that conversation open, the delete took 1 minute 10 seconds. Look for that mark in the sidebar, and ask the Dot to send approvals to the chat you use.
  4. Nobody can tell which edits the Dot made. Notion's Trash named uehara, not the Dot. If teammates share the workspace, have the Dot list what it changed, with links, in its reply or on a log page.
  5. Writes come back throttled. Once supernovae's Dot and Grok Bot were writing to the same workspace all day, writes and updates hit limits, and he moved their coordination to email. Keep writes few and batched, and tell the Dot what to do when a write fails (there is an ask for that below).
  6. A card comes back only half right. In Dejan Simic's week, tasks with a result you can check came back nearly done, while tasks that needed taste took several rounds. The five card fields, with Context filled in, made the biggest difference.
  7. Old records get mixed up with the current state. けんすみ hit this using several AIs at once and fixed it with one Notion task dashboard the Dot manages; Shingo Irie updates Notion whenever something happens so his Dot and Claude read the same record.
  8. Repeating templates, automations and buttons don't work through ChatGPT. Set those up in Notion itself and let the Dot work with the pages they produce.

What it can do, and what it can't yet

It can:

  • Read a schedule page, point out entries with no title, look up a missing venue and flag clashes once travel time is counted (오지은)
  • Review a board every morning and list next steps, blockers and decisions (Snapper AI)
  • Manage a task dashboard and, with Gmail connected, remind you of payment dates (けんすみ)
  • Check new cards for missing detail, hand ready cards to Codex and move them along the board (Dejan Simic, supernovae)
  • Find old notes, search for papers and write the result back to Notion (AI超元域), or prepare a briefing in Notion from what it found in Gmail (Karine Lago)
  • Ask before moving a deadline in Notion, and point out what a status table doesn't show yet (@ai.team_official)
  • Act as the shared record between a Dot and another assistant (Shingo Irie, Ry)

It can't yet, or not reliably:

  • Delete a Notion page through the Notion connection (uehara)
  • Run Notion's repeating templates, automations or buttons (OpenAI's Notion guide)
  • See a page your Notion account can't open, even when an admin has made the app available (OpenAI's Notion guide)
  • Show in Notion's history that the Dot, not you, made a change (uehara)
  • Take sustained writes from several busy agents without being throttled (supernovae)
  • Notify you when an approval moves into a separate conversation (uehara)

One message to start with

Tell me which Notion workspace you can see, and whether you can create, edit or delete pages there or only read them. Then read my Notion page [name], sum it up in five lines and list every entry with no title, no date or no owner. Suggest a fix for each, but don't change anything until I say yes. From now on, ask me before you change a date or an owner or delete anything in Notion. If a change needs the browser instead of the Notion connection, tell me here first and send any approval to this chat.

Quick answers

How do I connect Notion to my ChatGPT Dot?

In ChatGPT, open Settings → Plugins, choose Notion and connect the Notion account that owns the pages. The Dot sees only what that account can open and the workspace you authorised, and it reads live — there is no sync to wait for (Notion app and setup in ChatGPT). Notion is an app connection, separate from Slack or other places you talk to the Dot (Connect computers and apps). Ask it which workspace it can see, then test one named page.

What do people use a Dot with Notion for?

Mostly as the page it checks every day. A Yonhap News reporter's Dot spotted an untitled press event, looked up a venue and, within a minute of five new entries, flagged two clashes; Snapper AI's Dot reviews a Notion board at 7 a.m. and lists next steps and blockers; けんすみ's Dot manages a Notion task dashboard and, with Gmail connected, reminds them of payment due dates; Nick Tarmossin's Dot adds each brand deal to his Notion database and calendar.

Can it work through tasks on a Notion board?

Yes. Dejan Simic's Dot checks his Sprint Board every 15 minutes from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., tells him when a new card is unclear, and hands cards he moves to "With agents" to Codex; after five days he was finishing about twice as many tasks, which he calls a short trial. supernovae's Dot creates cards and tracks them from To do through WIP to Done. For the Codex side, see Dots and Codex.

Can it create, edit or delete Notion pages?

Creating and editing depend on the actions the connection offers and your Notion permissions; repeating templates, automations and buttons have to be set up in Notion itself. In uehara's test, creating a page worked, but the Notion tools had no delete, so the Dot switched to Chrome on his Mac and the approval prompt sat unseen in a separate conversation for about 21 minutes. With that conversation open, the delete took 1 minute 10 seconds, and Notion's Trash named uehara, not the Dot. The Yonhap title change and @ai.team_official's deadline edits both waited for a yes first.

Can several assistants share one Notion workspace?

Yes, with limits. Shingo Irie's Dot watches mail and Slack, Claude does the work, and a free Notion workspace is the record both read; he suggests starting with three pages (where things stand, projects, meeting notes). Ry had his Dot and other assistants stress-test a big Notion project before wrapping it up. supernovae found it fragile: once two agents were writing all day, Notion writes came back throttled, and he moved their coordination to email.

Which plan do I need?

A Dot comes with Pro ($100, $200 or $500 tiers) outside the EEA, UK and Switzerland, with Business Premium in any supported region, and with Enterprise once an admin switches it on (How to get ChatGPT Dots; in Europe, see Dots in the EU and UK). The full list of what a Dot can do is on the features page. If Notion work starts from your inbox, see email triage; for Docs and Sheets next to Notion, see Google Drive. If the Dot goes quiet, start at Dots not showing or not working.

Real cases, by job

Keep a schedule or board in Notion, and let the Dot check it

오지은 (Oh Ji-eun), technology reporter at Yonhap News (Korean, 11 October 2026). After a week of using a Dot for work, the reporter wrote up what happened once Notion was connected. The Dot, named 루키 (Rookie) after the reporter's dog, read the page where upcoming press events were kept. An entry for 20 October had been saved without a title, so the Dot pointed out it would be easy to miss and offered to name it "Cisco AI infrastructure and security event". After the reporter approved, it changed the title in Notion and said it was done. For an event that had only a date, it looked up the details on the web: the venue (Kakao's AI campus in Yongin), a 10 a.m. keynote on the 13th, no parking and a shuttle bus, and then asked which day the reporter had decided to attend. When five more events were added, it answered within a minute that the 14th and the 20th now clashed: two 10 a.m. events in different parts of Seoul on the 14th, and an 11 a.m. press meeting that would only work if the earlier event ended in time to travel. The reporter adds that the more a Dot can change in connected apps, the more the rules and approvals you set up matter.

Snapper AI (YouTube, 7 October 2026). In 3 jobs to give your Dot on day one, the first job is a daily priorities briefing: every morning at 7 a.m. the Dot reviews a Notion board and lists next steps, blockers and the decisions that need attention. Custom rules say which changes it has to ask about first. The same video has a "scheduled learning" job, where links emailed to a dedicated inbox become review notes in Notion and the Dot books a study session in Google Calendar. For the video, both are triggered by hand rather than waiting for the schedule.

Nick Tarmossin (Instagram, 1 October 2026). This college student, who runs a creator business, describes a brand-deal pipeline: the Dot reads an incoming brief, estimates the work, checks his calendars against the deadline, drafts a request for more time when they clash (he approves before it goes out), flags contract changes before he signs, and adds the deal to his Notion database and calendar. The post carries a #ChatGPT_Partner tag, so read it as a paid partner's account. The full case is on small business, case 3.

けんすみ, @kensumi_ai (X, 13 October 2026, Japanese). Using several AIs at once, they kept finding old records mixed up with the current state of things, so they built a task dashboard in Notion and handed it to the Dot to manage. Because Gmail is connected too, the Dot tells them when card payments and YouTube membership fees are due. Without being asked, it also picked up a natural-farming study session they plan to attend and added it as a task with a deadline. They say the moment was low-key but genuinely impressed them.

Hand the Dot tasks on a Notion board

Dejan Simic, Adaptive Technologies (company blog, 7 October 2026). His tasks already lived on a kanban board in Notion, so he let his Dot work the board. He told it the board was called Sprint Board, added a fourth column for agents (To do, With agents, In progress, Done), and gave it two jobs, checked every 15 minutes between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. In To do, it checks whether each new card is clear enough for an agent to do and tells him if not. When he drags a card to With agents, it hands the work to Codex, moves the card to In progress when a draft is ready, and lets him know. On his first test task, researching the new ChatGPT plugins with finance examples, his phone buzzed halfway through: the Dot had found that some features were Enterprise-only and asked whether to keep only ideas that work on every plan. About 15 minutes later the draft was ready. The plugin description matched the docs he had read himself; the finance ideas were hit and miss. A task the same week, moving the company's website images to Cloudflare, came back needing almost no review. He now writes each card with five fields (Goal, Done when, Where, Context, Avoid) and says context matters most. After five days he was finishing about twice as many tasks as before, and he calls that a short trial to be read with caution. More on Dots and Codex.

supernovae, @byron_miller (X, 11 to 13 October 2026). He and his Dot built a Notion workspace together with pages for research, tasks, issues and current experiments, and they collaborate from it. The Dot creates cards there and tracks them from To do through WIP to Done. He says you don't need several assistants for this: the Dot spins off tasks from the board, each task keeps its own chat history, the tasks can run in parallel, and the Dot checks that all is well. He says he doesn't pay just for Dots: he uses Codex, and the Dot handles the coordination so work can run unattended. What happened when the workspace got busy is under "Where it went wrong" below.

Let several assistants share one Notion project

Ry, @rysaidthat_ (X, 12 October 2026). While finishing a big project in Notion, Ry had Grok Bot, his Dot and Meta's Muse all stress-test it before wrapping up, and called the hand-off seamless and easy. The post doesn't say what each one found.

supernovae, @byron_miller (X, 11 and 12 October 2026). The same Notion workspace is also where his Dot coordinates Grok Bot. He calls it "a bit whacky" and fragile: Notion's limits get in the way, and the work style and tone of the two models differ so much that things get lost in translation. It works well, he says, for having them compare each other's work. He set it up this way because, on his Windows computer, the Dot couldn't use SSH or WSL2.

Write notes and records back to Notion

AI超元域 (YouTube, Chinese, 30 September 2026). In a long hands-on test, a voice request had the Dot find old notes in Notion, search for papers on the topic and write the result back to Notion. The video says plainly that its demos were simple.

Karine Lago (Instagram, Portuguese, early October 2026). In her test, this Brazilian AI educator says the Dot found pending items in her Gmail and prepared a briefing in Notion without being asked to look. More on email triage.

@ai.team_official (Instagram, Korean, 5 October 2026). This AI consulting team's account describes a daily split: when an email moves a deadline, the Dot asks before changing the date in Notion, and when a new deliverable lands in Google Drive, it points out what the work-status table doesn't show yet. They approve from their phones. The Drive side is on Google Drive.

Decide what Notion is for, next to your other tools

TAKU (note, Japanese, 9 and 10 October 2026). On his first day with a Dot, which he calls Woody, this blogger and photographer settled where each kind of record goes: PLAUD voice recorders keep the raw recordings, the Dot is where he talks things through and makes things, and Obsidian keeps decisions, finished drafts and steps he will reuse. Working with the Dot, he also made one Notion page that tells him where each kind of record is kept; tidying the rest of his Notion was still in progress. On day two he added that PLAUD is connected through MCP, so the Dot can search the synced recordings and pull what he needs into plans and drafts, while Obsidian and Notion hold what he has decided and wants to use later.

入江慎吾 Shingo Irie (note, Japanese, 6 October 2026). This app developer splits the work three ways: the Dot watches mail and Slack, Claude does the work, and Notion on the free plan is the shared record. ChatGPT and Claude each have a memory but don't know each other's conversations, so whenever something happens Notion gets updated and both read from it. His loop: the Dot sends an alert, he decides, Claude does the job, and the result goes into Notion. He suggests starting with three Notion pages: a one-page "where things stand" (priorities, ongoing themes, recent decisions), a database of projects with status, next step and deadline, and a database of meeting notes with decisions and next steps. His Dot's own schedule is on meeting prep.

Moving work out of Notion

Ashe Magalhaes, @ashebytes (X and Instagram, 4 October 2026). Ashe posted a nine-minute screen recording about how the Dot is "lifting me out of notion". In the shorter reel she hands it ideas to triage, has it remind her to call her doctor, keeps three goals for the month with it, and has it schedule deliveries and pickups and add calendar events. She accepts some bugs for now in exchange for a system whose integrations and context hand-off she trusts. More on ops catch-up, case 7.

Where it went wrong

uehara (DEV Community, 9 October 2026). uehara connected eight work accounts, Notion among them, and checked 17 tasks against the real apps. Creating a Notion page worked. Deleting it did not go the way the connector suggested: the Notion tools the Dot had offered no delete action, so it switched to Chrome on uehara's Mac and moved that step into a separate conversation in the sidebar. The prompt asking to use Chrome appeared only there. Nobody saw it, and after about 21 minutes the step was recorded as aborted; the main chat said only that the deletion had not been carried out. With that conversation open, the second attempt took 1 minute 10 seconds, and Notion showed the page as moved to Trash by uehara, not by the Dot. Neither time did a notification arrive, only a "Needs approval" mark. The rest of the test is on features.

supernovae, @byron_miller (X, 12 October 2026). Once his Dot and Grok Bot were both working from Notion, he wrote that it "can barely handle a busy agent": his assistants kept reporting that a database write, update or request had been throttled or had hit an API limit. He asked whether a higher Notion plan raises those limits, and the same day said he had found a use for email: letting his agents coordinate there so they don't depend on heavily rate-limited web services.

More asks you can copy

Every weekday at [time, time zone], read my Notion page [name]. List entries with no title, no time or no place, and any two that overlap once travel time is counted. Suggest a fix for each, but ask me before you change anything in Notion.

Before you change or delete anything in Notion, tell me whether you'll use the Notion connection or the browser. If you need a separate approval, send it to me here, not only in another conversation.

Every 15 minutes between [start] and [end] on weekdays, check my Notion board [name]. For each new card in [To do column], tell me if the goal, the finish line or the context is missing. When I move a card to [agent column], start it, move it to [review column] when a draft is ready, and send me one line on what to check.

If a Notion write fails, is throttled or hits a limit, don't keep retrying. Write down what you were trying to change, wait [minutes], and try once more. If it still fails, send me the list of changes here so nothing is lost.
