Dots pricing and usage limits
What is included, what uses an allowance, and how the launch offer works.
Your first dot is included
OpenAI says the first dot is included with Pro or Business Premium at no extra base charge. This describes access to a dot; work can still have usage allowances. Enterprise access is managed through the workspace.
Conversations and delegated tasks
Conversations with your dot do not count toward ChatGPT usage limits. When your dot starts or manages Codex or ChatGPT Work tasks, those tasks use the relevant limits as usual. The task type matters more than the name of the app it touches.
The launch-month offer
The Help Center states that dots usage will not count toward eligible Pro, Business, and Enterprise plan allowances for the month following launch. The launch was September 29, 2026. This is a launch promotion, not a fresh free month attached to every future signup. The launch article separately specifies normal usage for delegated Work and Codex tasks.
Does calling another app cost usage?
Opening Gmail or asking for a document does not by itself identify the billing category. Open Activity, inspect whether a separate Work or Codex task was created, and check the corresponding usage page. Third-party software may also have its own subscription. For work performed directly by the dot, use the current Dots allowance terms; OpenAI says post-promotion terms will be shared later.
A useful way to check one job
Before a larger job, note your current usage, give your dot one representative task, and inspect the resulting task type and recorded usage afterwards. Keep the source, output size, and work environment consistent when comparing runs. This gives you a practical estimate for your own workflow.
