### How do I call my ChatGPT Dot?

Open your Dot's conversation in the ChatGPT mobile app, the desktop app, or a desktop browser and select the phone button. In the desktop app you can also select Call in its profile. Dots don't work on mobile web ([Message your dot](https://learn.chatgpt.com/docs/dots/channels)).

### Can my Dot call me, or make phone calls for me?

Not yet. Your Dot can't start a call to you at launch, and OpenAI says Dot-initiated calls are planned for after launch ([Getting started with your dot](https://help.openai.com/en/articles/20001530-getting-started-with-your-dot)). The docs don't describe a Dot phoning a shop or another person either, so every call today is one you start in ChatGPT.

### Does the work stop when I hang up?

No. Hanging up ends the voice conversation, and work you assigned can keep going. To stop it, open the ••• menu in your Dot's profile and select Pause.

### Can I text my Dot instead?

Some Pro users in the US can try texting as a limited beta, set up from the desktop app; it isn't available in Business or Enterprise workspaces. Everyone else can type in the Dot's chat in ChatGPT or connect Slack or Microsoft Teams.

### What if the call won't connect?

OpenAI's advice is to keep going by typing in the same conversation while calling isn't working. The mid-October reports further down, from people whose Dot rang out or answered very slowly, show what else helped.
